The Silicon IC 50th Anniversary yesterday

(via Engadget)
April 25, 1961 could possibly be regarded as the birth date of modern computing. Not just the laptop or desktop you are probably reading this on, but anything that uses integrated circuits, from the humble Commodore 64 to the Top 500 List. Sure there were IC's made out of germanium a few years prior, but germanium isn't used these days.

I surely can't be the only one who is surprised the silicon IC has stuck around this long.
